LavaMaeˣ Grants $15,000 to The Drip Mobile Shower

February 26, 2023

The $15,000 grant, in partnership with The Starbucks Foundation, will bring mobile showers to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Drip Mobile Shower—an non-profit organization bringing basic hygiene and dignity to people experiencing homelessness in Minneapolis—is the recipient of new funding from LavaMaeˣ’s Hygiene for Humanity Fund. The grant program invests in mobile hygiene solutions across the United States, and thanks to its funding partnership with The Starbucks Foundation, The Drip can build its first mobile shower trailer.

The Drip backstory

Christian Clements, Founder of The Drip, is a general contractor who started building relationships with unhoused people in his community and realized that access to hygiene was a big issue and wanted to do something about it. He joined our 1:1 mentorship program in January 2021 to take a grassroots, harm-reduction approach to his custom-built mobile shower program. In March 2021, Christian started a GoFundMe that has since raised more than $20,000 due to successful community outreach and commitment to his dream.

Funding the trailer build and securing a new truck

After mentoring Christian and his team for over two years, we recognized the hard work and dedication The Drip has put into their project and community. In February 2023, we gladly awarded them $15,000 to finish the trailer build and help them put a down payment on a truck to tow it. Thanks to this grant, The Drip is scheduled to complete the build over the next six months and launch the program in July 2023.

Drip Mobile Shower is currently fundraising to build a portable shower unit on a trailer that can travel to different locations and provide warm showers to people experiencing homelessness. This may seem like a small thing, but the impact it can have on someone's life is enormous. A warm shower not only improves hygiene and physical health, but it can also provide a sense of dignity and hope for those who are struggling.
